REACH orientation to Counselling skills is an extended substitute for professional training and counselling. The program facilitates and contributes from a standpoint of practical experience and awareness of the academic literature of counselling than as an expert of teacher counselling.

In this approach, teachers already bring to the workshop a high level and range of counselling skills and the emphasis can be on highlighting these. This is done by asking them to identify the many different forms of helping/ intervention and how this may be different from counselling.

Defining counselling – participants can now analyse their own situation and practices from which they can then identify the core skills required for counselling
